Summary

  • Diablo 4 Season 5 introduces the Burning Butcher, an upgraded version of the iconic monster.
  • The Burning Butcher's health and Burn status effect make him a more challenging foe.
  • Season 5 also brings new questlines, end-game boss updates, and more weapons and armor.

Diablo 4 may already be swarming with some of the most gruesome foes Hell can conjure but the upcoming season is set to introduce an even more brutal version of one of the franchise's most iconic monsters. When it comes to imposing enemies, Diablo players are all too familiar with the hulking mass of flesh that is The Butcher. Beginning his reign of torment all the way back in the original game, the cleaver-wielding villain has challenged heroes in nearly every game in the series, and it seems he's upgrading to an even more deadly form.

Per GamesRadar+, Diablo 4 Season 5 will introduce the Burning Butcher, an enflamed version of the monster that's set to give players a hard time.

Over on the game's PTR, YouTuber Rizarjay shared a clip of their encounter with the barbaric enemy and while the Burning Butcher does go down relatively quickly, one can only imagine what kind of turmoil he may heap upon players who aren't prepared for his introduction. The content creator does state that once Season 5 rolls around, Burning Butcher will likely be significantly stronger, so players should prepare for a tricky encounter.

Why Diablo 4 Players Are Excited For Burning Butcher

The Classic Enemy Needed Some Improvement

The Butcher is one of the most iconic enemies in Diablo, and while his war cry of "Fresh meat!" is instantly recognizable to veterans, his presence in Diablo 4 isn't all that intimidating. Serving as a super unique monster that can randomly spawn in dungeons, he may initially be threatening for players not properly geared to deal with him, but a decently leveled build is able to bring him down fairly quickly. Given the community's respect for The Butcher, and considering that he's even an optional boss in the first Diablo, it's slightly disappointing that he's not a bigger threat.

The only Diablo game The Butcher did not appear in was Diablo 2 . He even appears in Overwatch as a skin for Roadhog and is a playable character in Heroes of the Storm .

Burning Butcher is hopefully the upgrade the sub-boss needs as it seemingly grants him additional health and, based on the name, a Burn status effect that can pose quite a challenge if not dealt with swiftly. How he'll function in Season 5 has yet to be determined by Blizzard is likely to shed more like on The Butcher's new form in due time. Players who want an early shot at taking him down can hopefully run into him in at least a Tier 3 Infernal Horde in the Diablo 4 PTR.

As for what else Diablo 4 players can expect in Season 5, Blizzard is teasing some major changes. Perhaps the biggest shift comes in the form of the new questline which will supposedly shake up alliances and introduce some "unlikely friends." Additionally, the next chapter in the live-service game is expected to introduce some much-needed quality-of-life updates to end-game bosses as well as plenty of new weapons and armor for players to unlock.
