Former Kaduna Central Senator, Shehu Sani, has described President Bola Tinubu as the father of protest in Nigeria.

Sani made the remark while speaking at a special dinner organised to mark Democracy Day at the State House Conference Centre in Abuja, on Wednesday.

He urged Tinubu to pardon some of the EndSARS protesters still languishing in detention across the country.

According to Sani: “Mr President, there are some people still in detention as a result of the EndSARS protest, do something about it. Any young protester in Nigeria today learnt from you. You are the father of protesters in Nigeria. Do something about it and give them the freedom.

“You funded us to fight so they are your children and grandchildren, give them the pardon.”

On Monday, the former lawmaker had urged President Bola Tinubu to release all EndSARS prisoners still detained.

Sani said Tinubu should release the detainees in the spirit of June 12.

It will be recalled that Tinubu was a prominent figure during the agitation against the military junta in Nigeria.

Tinubu was part of the National Democratic Coalition, NADECO, that fought against the military junta in Nigeria.
