44Yr-Old Tailor Appears In Court For Manslaughter Charges

Lagos—The Lagos State Police Command brought 44yrs old tailor, Usman Abubakar Shaba, before the court on Thursday to face charges related to the alleged manslaughter of Usman Hamed.

At the Ikeja High Court, the defendant, Usman Abubakar Shaba, appeared before Honorable Justice Ogala and entered a plea in response to a single charge of manslaughter.

The charge states that Usman Abubakar Shaba, 44, is accused of causing the death of Usman Hamed on February 20, 2023, at around 7:30 a.m., by subjecting him to a brutal assault, characterized by repeated blows and extreme physical force, which ultimately resulted in the victim’s fatal injuries.

As stated by the prosecution counsel, O.A. Azeez, the defendant’s alleged crime of manslaughter violates Section 224 of the Criminal Law, as specified in the Laws of Lagos State (2015), Volume 3, page 617, which pertains to the offense of manslaughter.

The charge against the defendant, Usman Abubakar Shaba, alleges that on February 20, 2023, at about 7:30 a.m., at the specified location of Number 12 Odusanya Street, Agege, Lagos, he engaged in a physical altercation with Usman Hamed, during which he inflicted multiple beatings and applied excessive force to the victim’s body, resulting in his death.

The court had the charges translated from English into Hausa to ensure that the defendant understood them.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.
