Carlton Palmer Expresses Concerns About Luke Shaw’s Inclusion in England Squad for Euros

Former England international Carlton Palmer has expressed concerns about Manchester United defender Luke Shaw ahead of coach Gareth Southgate’s announcement of the England squad for the Euros.

Shaw, who has been a key player for Manchester United, has faced challenges due to injuries, which have hindered his ability to perform at his best, according to Palmer.

He joined the club during the 2014-15 transfer window and has featured in over 30 Premier League games in a season just once.

Shaw has only played just 12 league appearances this season.

He has been a part of the England squad since 2014, playing five games at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

But Carlton Palmer does not think that the Manchester United defender should play for England.

He said, in an interview with The World Class Stamp Podcast, “I think we [England] have an issue at left-back.

“I’m not a Luke Shaw fan. I think he’s a good footballer, but he’s a poor defender.

“Shaw on that side with Maguire, it doesn’t work for me. If Gareth Southgate was sold on Luke Shaw, why did he start Trippier at left-back for the Euros?”
