Cleaning a showerhead covered in limescale may seem like an easy task, but many people, including cleaning experts, have found it challenging to know exactly what to use.

Limescale removers can cost around £10, leading some individuals to seek a more affordable solution.

They've turned to the Mrs Hinch Cleaning Tips Facebook group to ask how others manage to make their showerheads look brand new.

One group member responded to a request for showerhead cleaning tips: "To descale a showerhead, put a freezer bag over the showerhead (head first).

"Put the shower head and bag into a tall measuring jug. Fill the jug with hot water. Fill the freezer bag with vinegar. The shower head will fill with vinegar but you won't use a whole jug to clean it."

Another simply suggested: "White vinegar. Soak for half an hour."

Cleaning expert Nick Ross also recommends using white vinegar but suggests soaking it for a longer period and only on stainless steel showerheads.

He advised: "Simply fill a plastic bag with white vinegar and soak the showerhead for a few hours, or overnight if the build-up is tougher.

"Once soaked, rinse the showerhead thoroughly and scrub any stubborn areas with an old toothbrush. Remember that this approach should be used only for stainless steel showerheads. Ones with delicate finishes like brass should not be soaked for more than 30 minutes."

Tesco sells a 568ml bottle of white vinegar for just 35p. Cleaning enthusiasts also frequently suggest Stardrops White Vinegar Spray with an 850ml bottle available at The Range for just £1.19.
