UGA Students Take Action to Preserve Georgia's Coastal Environment

apexlifehub.com 2 days ago

Researchers and educators from the University of Georgia Marine Extension and Georgia Sea Grant are taking steps to protect Georgia's coastal environment. Cleaning Up the Marsh: Program leader Natalie Kenny-Hall led a group of UGA students on an aquarium tour at the Burton 4-H Center on Tybee Island during an IMPACT spring break service trip. The team works in a unique lab on Skidaway Island, surrounded by salt marsh and towering oak trees. Egrets soar overhead and crabs scurry over their boots as they navigate the maritime forest floor. However, there are threats to this picturesque landscape, including invasive species and pollution. In response, the team offers education on how to preserve the health of Georgia's coastline. By taking action and raising awareness, UGA students are making a real impact in protecting the environment.
