The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) in Imo has concluded plans to partner with Imo state owned University of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences, Umuagwo, to ensure food security in the state.

The NDDC Federal Commissioner for Imo state, Hon Dr Kyrian Chidiebere Uchegbu, who led his commission to the land provided by the university authorities, said, “It is noteworthy that Imo state has a large expanse of land to cultivate varieties of food crops that will enhance food security and employment opportunities for our teeming population.”

He assured the institution of NDDC’s preparedness to do anything that would better the lives of the people, especially the ordinary citizens who are finding it difficult to provide three square meals for their families due to high cost of foods occasioned by paucity of food production.

Dr Uchegbu reassured that upon the actualisation of the project, it would provide employment opportunities to the state’s teeming young people, attract more business men and women looking for where to invest their money and enlist Imo state on the list of states with the highest food production ratio in Nigeria.

He disclosed that the noble programme would swell the state’s income as well as stimulate circular flow of Imo people and their neighbours.
