Fans want Joshua to Beat Southgate after Subpar England Displays

Following the Three Lions’ disappointing performance at the ongoing Euro 2024 competition being hosted in Germany, several supporters have jokingly urged former heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua to face England manager Gareth Southgate.

Southgate’s team has advanced to the quarterfinals and will take on Switzerland this coming Saturday, but they have received harsh criticism for their performances.

When Slovakia took the lead in their last-16 match thanks to a goal from Ivan Schranz, his third goal of the game, England looked certain to be eliminated from the continental championship.

However, a late Jude Bellingham overhead kick goal took the game into extra time, before Harry Kane headed home from close range to give them a 2-1 win.

Combat sports page, Boxing Kingdom, posted a picture of Joshua on X with the caption, “Who would you like to see Anthony Joshua fight next?”

Portsmouth player Jordan Webb then replied simply, “Gareth Southgate.”

Many other fans then reacted in the comments section, with one even saying the fight should happen before the Switzerland game, perhaps, to prevent the 53-year-old from taking charge of the game.

An X user, @spyderrmann, wrote, “We all need this fight, we need it badly.”

Simon Allison added, “Any chance you could organise it before Saturday (date of q’finals clash vs Switzerland)”

Emmanuel Karl stated, “Yes Southgate nearly made me wanna jump off a bridge after that Slovakia game.”

Nigerian user, Ayorinde Olade, was shocked by the animosity directed at the England boss.

He wrote, “Has it gotten to this extent?”

Ifeanyi Peter added, “Southgate has given him (Webb) High Blood Pressure.”

Another English fan, Geordie Walker, however, thinks Southgate’s luck might shine through.

“But you know Southgate wins this by stumbling blindly through it,” Walker wrote.
