Large numbers of the University of Cross River students and graduates have come out to demonstrate over the illegal removal of the Vice -Chancellor, Professor Austine Angba

This is as a result of the decision of the Governing Council to suspend the hardworking Vice Chancellor with frivolous and unsubstantiated claims of misconduct which had been investigated with a clean bill of health in his favour.

Majority of the demonstrators who spoke with our correspondent defended the VC saying the Governing Council acted in bad fate and gross bias with a strong position that the tenure of the Governing Council had even expired.

Several of the placard carrying protesters also heavily criticised the move which made one of them acting VC insisting that it is procedurally wrong especially now that the Vice Chancellor has repositioned the institution to an enviable height globally.

The protesting students including teaching and non-teaching staff also say his suspension was unfair and that it was carried out against their wishes. They maintained that the suspension by the governing council was illegal, stressing that it was orchestrated by few individuals who do not have the interest of the school.

“In any part of this world, what is important is to stick to that which is right. Sometimes truth can be difficult to hear. The truth is open and it will always pave the way for justice. The Vice Chancellor should be reinstated to continue his job, one of them said.

As at the time of this report, the angry students have locked the university’s main entrance gate in protest while some of them have started running online campaigns to display their support for the ousted Vice-Chancellor.
