92% of Indian offices have integrated ChatGPT into daily operations: DeskTime study finds

The data shows that in almost all offices across the country, individual employees or entire departments have integrated this AI tool into their daily operations.

OpenAI’s ChatGPT has seen impressive adoption in Indian workplaces, a study by DeskTime has said, highlighting the fact that over 92 per cent of offices have incorporated the AI tool into their day-to-day operations in India.

Artis Rozentals, CEO of DeskTime, commented on the findings: “The rapid increase in ChatGPT usage signifies a paradigm shift towards a more innovative and efficient working environment. This study not only underscores the innovative spirit of Indian employees but also sets a benchmark for global workplaces on how generative AI can be effectively integrated into daily operations to complement human skills and enhance overall performance.”

The data was collected between January 2023 and March 2024 via the DeskTime time-tracking tool from 297 companies across the country, involving a total of 14,818 employees.

As of March 2024, 42.6 per cent of Indian office workers were actively using ChatGPT, a figure that has doubled compared to the previous year.

Additionally, the study reveals that 95.5 per cent of Indian companies are considering and encouraging the use of ChatGPT as a productivity tool, with Indian employees leading the way in adopting AI tools in the workplace.

The most significant surge in ChatGPT usage among employees occurred between January and April 2023, with the user base increasing from 13 per cent to 28 per cent. Since then, growth has slowed but remains steady.

Indian workers are leading the way in AI adoption, spending an average of 241 hours per year on AI tools, according to HRKatha.
