80-year-old woman, son-in-law, killed in Maguindanao del Sur gun attack

Gun attack victims Kael Nandang and his mother-in-law Kalmo Butatek both died on the spot from multiple bullet wounds.

COTABATO CITY— Gunmen shot dead an 80-year-old woman and his son-in-law in a daytime gun attack in Barangay Poblacion in Ampatuan, Maguindanao del Sur  on Thursday.

In a report on Friday to Brig. Gen. Prexy Tanggawohn, director of the Police Regional Office-Bangsamoro Autonomous Region, the Ampatuan Municipal Police Station stated that the farmer Kael Nandang, 48, and his mother-in-law, Kalmo Butatek, 80, both died instantly from multiple gunshot wounds.

Nandang and Butatek were in their yard in Purok 4 in Barangay Poblacion in Ampatuan when they were attacked by gunmen who immediately fled amid the commotion among villagers around triggered by the gunshots that reverberated through the scene.

Investigators in the Ampatuan Municipal Police Station have tapped the support of Barangay officials in trying to establish the identities of the culprits and their motive for perpetrating the atrocity that also caused panic among neighbors of the victims.

Tanggawohn has instructed the officials of the Ampatuan MPS and the Maguindanao Provincial Police Office to cooperate in filing corresponding cases against the killers of Nandang and Butatek once identified.
