Real Madrid Announces Player Transfer

Forbes 4 days ago

Real Madrid has announced the transfer of one of its now former first team players through an official statement uploaded to social media and the club's website.

"Real Madrid C. F., after exercising its option to acquire the rights of the player Joselu Mato against R. C. D. Espanyol, has reached an agreement with Al-Gharafa SC for the transfer of our player," the statement began.

"Joselu arrived at Real Madrid's youth academy in 2010 at the age of 20 and joined the Castilla, where he played 2 seasons and participated in the promotion to the Second Division in the 2011-2012 season.

"In this 2023-2024 season, in which Joselu has been part of Real Madrid, he has played 49 games, scored 18 goals and won three titles: one Champions League, one La Liga and one Spanish Super Cup."

Madrid noted Joselu's exploits in the second leg of a Champions League semifinal second leg against Bayern Munich, where he was "a very important player to reach the final at Wembley and win the 15th European Cup".

Joselu entered the proceedings in the 81st minute, with all seeming lost after Madrid target Alphonso Davies came off the bench and fired a rocket past Andriy Lunin.

The strike put the Bavarians 3-2 up on aggregate and leading 1-0 on the night.

With little to spare, however, Joselu had other ideas and became a Madrid hero forever by sealing a brace through strikes in the 88th and 91st minutes which booked his club's place in the final where Los Blancos beat Borussia Dortmund 2-0.

Finishing its statement, Real Madrid thanked Joselu "for his professionalism and his Madridismo", and wanted to shows "all its affection to him and his family, to whom it wishes the best of luck in this new stage of their lives".

As mentioned, that will take place in Qatar where Joselu is the latest signing for Al-Gharafa in the Qatar Stars League.

Joselu is the second departure from the Spanish Capital to the Middle East this week, as former captain Nacho's exit to Al-Qadsiah in the Saudi Pro League was also announced a few days ago.
