Delta LG Polls: Political Parties To Sign Peace Accord- DSIEC

 

Delta State Independent Electoral Commission, DSIEC, has said it has initiated a peace accord to be signed by the Chairmen of ten participating political parties that would participate in July 13 local government elections in the state

DSIEC Chairman, Dr. Jerry Agbaike, stated this in Asaba, the state capital, during a one-day capacity building workshop for journalists organised by the commission in conjunction with the State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ.

He said the Commission was driven by the strong ethics of equity, justice, fairness and high integrity as impartial arbiters to deliver on its mandate to conduct free, fair, transparent, credible and peaceful polls.

Agbaike disclosed that a critical yardstick for selection of it’s ad-hoc staff for the July 13, 2024 local government elections in the State was that they must not be card-carrying members of any political party.

He said the ad-hoc staff “must be persons of unquestionable character and should not be biased against any political aspirant or political party, should not be persons with criminal records, etc.

“Security and law enforcement agencies are already collaborating with DSIEC to neutralize and diminish political-threats, provide adequate security and ensure a peaceful election.”
