The opioid crisis in Florida has faced a significant blow as Attorney General Ashley Moody's Office of Statewide Prosecution (OSP) has taken action against 39 individuals involved in a massive drug-trafficking ring. Major Bust in Florida: The coordinated efforts of law enforcement in Volusia and Putnam counties have targeted the distribution of deadly fentanyl, methamphetamine, and cocaine in the region. The investigation, known as 'Wild-N-Out' led by the Volusia Bureau of Investigation and the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office, uncovered a sophisticated criminal operation responsible for the widespread distribution of illicit substances. Ringleaders Facing Charges: Allen Messer, Toure Allen Wilder, Bobby Wilder, and Khyree Douglas Isaac are among those facing charges that include trafficking in fentanyl, methamphetamine, cocaine, money laundering, and more. Authorities were able to seize over one kilogram of fentanyl, 19 pounds of methamphetamine, and 69 grams of cocaine, along with drug paraphernalia used in manufacturing and packaging the narcotics. The seized fentanyl alone is enough to potentially claim the lives of at least half a million Floridians. Law Enforcement Success: Attorney General Moody emphasized the importance of removing deadly fentanyl from communities, thanking law enforcement partners for shutting down the drug operation in Volusia and Putnam counties. Sheriff Mike Chitwood praised the collaborative effort in dismantling the drug trafficking organization and emphasized the ongoing battle against fentanyl, heroin, and meth supply in the community. The Devastating Impact: Fentanyl, a highly potent synthetic opioid, has contributed significantly to overdose deaths across the state, often unknowingly mixed into other drugs. The repercussions of the opioid crisis have been severe, with lives lost and communities suffering. The relentless efforts of law enforcement to combat drug trafficking are crucial in safeguarding the well-being of Florida residents.
