Dunkirk's Summer Spectacular: Four-Day Independence Day Celebration

City in festive spirits
Dunkirk is gearing up for an exciting Independence Day celebration spread over four days, starting July 3. The city will witness a host of attractions including live music, food vendors, and the much-anticipated fireworks display.

Music Extravaganza
Thursday, July 3, kicks off the festivities with a musical treat featuring Ten Cent Howl and Two For Flinching at Memorial Park. Vendors will be open from 5 p.m. onwards, offering a variety of refreshments.

Throwback Thursday
The highlight of the celebration is the Fourth of July event, themed "Back to the Eighties" Night. Party McFly, Furious George, and Nerds Gone Wild will take center stage at Memorial Park, entertaining the crowd with a blast from the past. The night will culminate with the grand Starfire Corporation fireworks display, the largest in Chautauqua County.

In case of unfavorable weather conditions, the fireworks show will be moved to July 5.

Community Support
Scott Mekus, representing Dunkirk's recreation department, expressed gratitude to the community and business donors who have generously contributed to make the annual fireworks show a success. Donations are still being accepted to ensure the tradition continues.

Event Logistics
The Dunkirk Pier will be closed from July 3 to July 5 morning, with additional road closures on Central Avenue and restrictions at Chadwick Bay Marina for safety during the fireworks display.

Hometown Heroes
The festivities continue on Friday, showcasing The Freeze and Sean Patrick McGraw at Memorial Park's Hometown Night, sponsored by Cattaraugus County Bank. A variety of vendors will be open for business, offering delectable treats and unique finds.

Community Engagement
The weekend features the 10th Annual Marauder Trotter 5k Run/Walk, hosted by the DHS Class of 1989, with proceeds supporting the DHS Unified Sports program. Participants can register online or on-site on the day of the event.

A birthday carnival will add to the fun on Saturday morning, featuring DJ Joe Gould and a range of activities for all ages.
