The Institute of Mortgage Brokers and Lenders of Nigeria (IMBL) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offenses Commission (ICPC) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to eradicate corruption in the real estate and mortgage sectors.

The partnership, according to both agencies, aims to foster transparency, accountability, and ethical practices within the industry, aligning with IMBL’s mission to enact vital reforms and strengthen governance systems.

A statement issued by the IMBL’s administrative secretary, Miss Grace O. Steven, in Abuja on Friday, indicated that the collaboration “is poised to streamline processes, enhance data security, and ensure the immutability of records, ultimately building trust among stakeholders including mortgage professionals, lenders, brokers, and real estate agents.”

It quoted the Registrar/CEO of IMBL, Dr. Jasper Adeleye, as saying that IMBL “will leverage its expertise to professionalise practices and support the ICPC in implementing innovative solutions to combat corruption.”

Adeleye said, “The system we are building will play a crucial role in establishing a transparent and accountable practice structure where the interests of the public are protected without compromising the practitioners.

“This collaboration reaffirms our commitment to harnessing value for the betterment of the nation.”

Also speaking, the chairman of the ICPC, Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu, also highlighted the significance of the partnership in enhancing the commission’s efforts to combat corruption.

“We are thrilled to join hands with IMBL. Together, we can create a system that fosters integrity and trust,” he said.
