Amanda Odoi vs Speaker: Supreme Court to rule on injunction July 17

The Supreme Court has set July 17, 2024, to rule on Dr Amanda Odoi’s application for interlocutory injunction against Parliament and Clerk to Parliament from transmitting the Anti-Gay Bill to the Presidency.

The Researcher of the University of Cape Coast through her lawyers moved the application for injunction to stop Parliament from transmitting the bill passed in February to the President for his assent.

The panel of of five chaired by the Chief Justice heard long arguments from the Plaintiff’s Lawyer Ernest Arthur, the Attorney General, Godfred Yeboah Dame, and Thaddeus Sory Counsel for Speaker of Parliament before fixing the date.

On July 17, 2024, the panel which also comprised Justice Mariama Owusu, Justice Prof Henrietta Mensa-Bonsu, Justice Ernest Gaewu, and Justice Yaw Darko Asare will determine whether to grant the request or not.

EIB Network’s Legal Affairs Correspondent, Murtala Inusah reports that the Attorney General wants the apex Court to decide whether, in the applicant case, there was any question of law while Thaddeus Sory opposed the request.
