GGC Gezawa clinches 1st position at 2024 Model Science Quiz

As the Model Science Quiz Competition 2024 reached the final stage, Goveenment Girls College Gezawa has attained the 1st position which gives it an automatic ticket to represent Kano state in the next inter state Quiz competition.

KANO FOCUS reports that the Competition tagged ‘Hon. Umar Haruna Doguwa Model Scuence Quiz Competition’ organized by the Kano State Senoir Secondary Schools Management Board (KSSSMB) covered science subjects including English, Mathematics, Physic, Chemistry and Biology.

Participants of the competition were drawn from 24 schools across the state out of which 10 schools were screened at the first round while 5 out of the 10 were also screened during the second round and that made them to proceed to the final round of the competition.

The five schools that reached the final round were Government Girls Secondary School Audu Mariri, Government Girls College Gezawa, Government Girls Secondary School Duka Wuya, Government Secondary School Gwale and Government Secondary School Minjibir.

Final result of the competition showed that Government Girls College Gezawa emerged winner of the 1st position followed by Government Girls Secondary School Audu Mariri that took the 2nd position while Government Secondary School Gwale became 3rd.

Speaking while closing the competition at Government Girls College Dala, the State Commissioner of Education Alhaji Umar Haruna Doguwa emphaszed that Kano State Government is committed towards bringing new strategies that improve the quality of education in the state.

Doguwa maintained that it is higher time for the agencies supervising schools under the ministry to revive quiz and debate competition, which he said had been one of the annual event that encourage students performance.

“I want to categorically direct all our head of parastatals present here to make sure that they make quiz and debate competition compulsory in all their schools so as to encourage students performance especially on sciece subjects ” he said.

Regarding the ministry effort to improve students performance in NECO and other examinations, Doguwa explained that….” the Principal position and promotion will henceforth be on his school’s record in NECO and WAEC results.

“We are ready to better the life of these kids as we all believe that the future of our dear state depends on them. Therefore, this government will do everything possible to make sure that these children succeed in life, and that is why we will start measuring the Principal position on the performance of his school in NECO ”

The Commissioner further urged all students and the participating schools of the competition to be dedicated in their studies, stressing that the present administration of Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf is willing to help them acquire the best education.

In his remarks, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Vocational Training Alhaji Habib Hassan El-Yakub said quiz competition is not just about winning prizes but it is a way of encouraging the students to come out and compete on ideas relating to their field of studiy.

Habib Hassan therefore commended the effort of the Ministry, Kano State Senior Secondary Schools Management Board and the participating schools in making the programme a success.

Earlier, the Executive Secretary Kano State Senior Secondary Schools Management Board Dr. Kabir Ado Zakirai disclosed that the Model Science Quiz Competition was organized to provide ulternative to parents and encourage students on science and technical courses.

Dr. Kabir Ado said it was obvious the confidence of the students who participated in the competition showed that there is significant change in the quality of education given to them.

“As SS 3 students are now writing their NECO examination, I want to inform you that we are determined to increase the quality not nust the quantity of the stidents that are going to graduate this year 2024 and by God grace, they are graduating with fly color ” he asured.

He then thanked the teachers, principals and Kano State Miinistry of Education for their support and commitment in ensuring that the students grow up to live a better life.
