The House of Representatives has urged all stakeholders to submit memoranda for consideration in the ongoing process of restructuring government agencies.

Chairman of the Special Committee on Restructuring of Federal Agencies and Commissions, Ibrahim Isiaka (APC-Ogun), made this call during a press conference in Abuja on Tuesday. He also extended an invitation to interested individuals and organizations to participate in a public hearing on the Oronsaye Report and related matters scheduled for Wednesday, July 10.

Scheduled to take place in Room 0.28, New Building Extension of the House of Representatives, the hearing invites contributions from various sectors. Isiaka specified that all memoranda should be submitted to Mr. Kwayama Jehu, Clerk of the Committee, at Room HB40A, White House, National Assembly Complex.

Isiaka emphasized the evolving nature of global governance, stressing the need for government agencies and commissions to be structured effectively to fulfill their mandates. He stated, “We aim to identify redundancies, duplications, inefficiencies, and areas for improvement within federal government agencies and commissions.”

Highlighting the urgency of reviewing the Oronsaye report and other relevant white papers on the restructuring of federal government agencies, parastatals, and commissions, Isiaka noted its publication in 2012. He underscored its recommendations aimed at rationalizing and optimizing government operations for enhanced efficiency and cost-effectiveness.

Isiaka expressed the committee’s commitment to aligning government structures with current realities and best practices. He outlined the legislative approach to streamline operations, eliminate functional overlaps, improve service delivery, and optimize resource allocation.

“We will conduct a thorough and inclusive review, engaging diverse perspectives and expertise,” he affirmed. Isiaka stressed the importance of stakeholder engagement, welcoming input from government officials, civil society experts, organizations, and the public.

Transparency, accountability, and inclusivity, he declared, will guide the committee’s review process toward fostering a more efficient, effective, and responsive government tailored to meet the needs of Nigeria.
