Imo Community Cries Out For Help Over Gully Erosion

Residents of Umuchima community in Ideato South local government area are appealing to the state and Federal governments to address the devastation caused by erosion for fear of going into extinction if nothing urgent is done.

They say the major market and business have been shut down due to the threat posed by the disaster.

It started as a little pot hole on the Orlu-Mgbee-Akokwa-Uga road.

Now, it’s a big gully measuring about 35 feet deep closing the major road.

This market popularly called “Nkwo market” within the area which has a history in the community is almost gone as over 20 houses according to the concerned residents have been submerged.

These people are packing out from their houses to seek refuge in their neighborhoods to avert being caught up in the in an unfortunate event as some of these buildings are seriously threatened.

They want the governments to expedite action before the community goes into extinction.

This elderly woman is worried as the only building she has is under threat.

The gully devastation also affected some neighboring communities of Mgbee, Ogboko and Obiohia.

To the concerned residents, they are tired of seeing on the pages of newspapers that government has given approval for the rehabilitation but an immediate action that will rekindle their hope.
