Lara Flynn Boyle recalls getting CUT from hit Robin Williams film

Daily Mail Online 2 days ago

Lara Flynn Boyle revealed she only found out she was cut from one of Robin Williams' highest-grossing films after watching the movie with her mother, Sally.

While recalling the moment she realized her scene had not made it into the the 1989 drama, Dead Poets Society, the Twin Peaks star, 54, admitted she was 'crushed.'

Despite having a 'fantastic' time shooting with the cast in Delaware for a month, the Emmy nominee said she was never informed that her performance didn't make the movie's final version.

'I wasn’t in the movie. I'm watching Dead Poets Society with my mom, and I kept [going], "Here comes my scene, here comes my scene." No scene, no scene,' Boyle told People.

She continued: 'They never told me [I was cut]... [that was] the last time that Hollywood hurt my feelings.'

Boyle revealed she was cast as a woman named Jeanie, the love interest of Robert Sean Leonard's character, Neil.

'[Neil] falls in love with this little actress he does the play with,' she said of her character. 'I remembered my character’s name. I never do.'

Having her scene cut was particularly painful as she was previously cut from the comedy Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, starring Matthew Broderick.

Lara, who was born in Iowa, moved to California to work as a child actress in the 1986 film Ferris Bueller's Day off.

She then went on to appear in Amerika in 1987 then Dead Poets Society in 1989.

Boyle became famous when she landed the role of Donna Hayward in Twin Peaks from 1990 until 1991.

In the 1990s she appeared in several movies including Threesome, Afterglow, then returned to TV with The Practice in 1997.

In 2002, she had luck in movies again opposite Will Smith in Men In Black II then went on to work in Huff.

But in 2005, she was back to TV with Las Vegas with Josh Duhamel and Molly Sims. In 2009 she was in Baby On Board then later in Life Is Hot In Cracktown.

She is next set to appear in the dark comedy, Mother, Couch, which comes out this Friday.

The film also stars Taylor Russell, Ewan McGregor, Lake Bell, Ellen Burstyn, and Rhys Ifans.

The film's writer-director, Niclas Larsson, has been intrigued by Lara since he was a child reading tabloids at his mother's hair salon in Sweden.

'The only type of literature I was exposed to between the age of 5 to maybe 10 was gossip magazines,' he reminisced. 'And Lara was on the cover a lot.'

So when Niclas wrote the script, he immediately pegged Lara as the chain-smoking daughter who has little patience for her argumentative mother's (Ellen) unfolding drama at a furniture store.

'I’m like, "What’s up with Lara? What’s up with the excellent actor Lara Flynn Boyle?" I knew I needed someone who physically and mentally lived through something,' he said. 'I don’t think anyone can imagine what it is like to go through what a lot of women went through in the late ’90s, early 2000s.'

Because the director does, in fact, enjoy seeing her on screen, he noted to People, 'I’m putting her in every movie I make. Let’s see how Mother, Couch goes.'

'You have to promote yourself,' the icon chimed in about managing expectations in Hollywood, 'but then you have to sit back and wash your hands of it.'

But Lara doesn't view this as a comeback because, in her eyes, she never left.

As she put it: 'You don’t want an article to read, "Boyle’s Second Chance" or "Look Who’s Back." I’m right here.'
