Nag Ashwin's Kalki 2898 AD blends elements of history, science-fiction and mythology effortlessly and has become a fan favourite as evident in its terrific box office numbers. The movie stars Deepika Padukone, Prabhas, Kamal Haasan and Amitabh Bachchan in intriguing roles and is directed by Nag Ashwin. Deepika Padukone portrays SU-M80 or Sumathi (as named by Anna Ben's Kyra in the movie), a lab test subject under Project K, that is run by a group of scientists in the Complex for generating a serum for Supreme Yaskin played by Kamal Haasan.

In a recent interview with News18, Saswata Chatterjee shed light on the challenging climax scene of Nag Ashwin's highly anticipated film, Kalki 2898 AD. The movie features mom-to-be Deepika Padukone as a pregnant test subject named SU-M80, also known as Sumathi. Interestingly, Deepika was actually pregnant during the filming of this intense scene.

Saswata Chatterjee, who plays Commander Manas in the film, revealed that the physically demanding climax was shot in Mumbai. The scene involves a dramatic tussle where Commander Manas, portrayed by Saswata, grapples with Ashwatthama, played by the legendary Amitabh Bachchan, and drags SU-M80 by her hair. This scene required a lot of physical effort, and Deepika's real-life pregnancy added an extra layer of challenge.

Ranveer Singh, Deepika's husband, was present on set during the filming of this scene. Saswata shared a touching moment from the set, saying, “Deepika is always smiling. There is a scene where I drag her by the hair. It was part of the last leg of the shoot and was done in Mumbai because Deepika was pregnant by then. Given the physical nature of the scene, I reassured Ranveer, telling him not to worry as a body double would be used for the more strenuous parts. He was so polite and humble. He smiled and said, ‘I know, Dada.’”

Ranveer, known for his vibrant personality, was described by Saswata as someone who "can’t stand in one place," and he fondly recalled Ranveer dressed in an orange ensemble from head to toe.

Deepika and Ranveer, who tied the knot in 2018, are expecting their first child in September this year. The couple announced their pregnancy in February after much speculation arose when Deepika appeared at the BAFTAs. They shared a post confirming the news, featuring cute motifs of baby clothes, shoes and balloons with the caption, "September 2024."

Following Kalki 2898 AD, Deepika Padukone is set to appear in Rohit Shetty’s Singham Again.
