YORK COUNTY, Va. — A Yorktown man was arrested Tuesday for allegedly entering a home and assaulting a woman before running into the woods to hide from authorities.

The investigation began around 2:25 a.m. Tuesday when deputies responded to the 6300 block of George Washington Memorial Highway for a burglary in progress. That's in the Grafton area.

The victim called to report that a man forcibly entered her residence and assaulted her. The York-Poquoson Sheriff's Office said the suspect ran into the woods by the time deputies got there.

With help from a K9, deputies found Barnes hiding in the woods in the Grafton Woods subdivision around 3:25 p.m.

Barnes is being held in the Virginia Peninsula Regional Jail.
