Speculation Rises as United Ponder a Move for Liverpool’s Star Defender

Manchester United might attempt an audacious move to sign Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold, potentially unlocking his true potential at Old Trafford.

The idea of Liverpool selling one of their top players, especially a homegrown talent, to their fiercest rivals is almost unimaginable for fans and decision-makers at Anfield. Such a move would echo the dramatic saga of 2005 when Steven Gerrard nearly joined Chelsea, only to remain and become a Liverpool legend.

At 25, Alexander-Arnold is already a key figure at Liverpool, known for his creativity and having won every major trophy with the club except the Europa League. However, with his contract set to expire in the summer of 2025, questions about his long-term future at Anfield have surfaced.

While there are ongoing talks to make him one of the club’s highest earners, former Manchester United striker Dwight Yorke believes Alexander-Arnold’s future could lie at Old Trafford. Yorke, a member of United’s treble-winning team of 1999, suggested that his former club should spare no expense in attempting to sign the Liverpool favorite, even considering a potential position switch to midfield.

Yorke’s comments come amid Liverpool’s transition phase following Jurgen Klopp’s departure. He suggested that if Alexander-Arnold becomes unhappy under a new manager, United should seize the opportunity to sign him.

While Alexander-Arnold is currently expected to extend his contract with Liverpool and shows no signs of being unhappy, the speculation about his future persists. Despite this, the likelihood of him leaving for Manchester United remains low, especially given United’s recent history with high-profile signings and the solid performance of their current right-back, Diogo Dalot.

The more plausible scenario, if Alexander-Arnold were to depart Liverpool, is a move to Real Madrid, who have shown interest in him as a long-term replacement for Dani Carvajal. For now, however, the most likely outcome is that Alexander-Arnold will sign a new long-term contract with his boyhood club, Liverpool.
