2 dead, 1 injured in crash along Highway 111 in Overton County

OVERTON COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) — Two drivers have died and one person is hurt following a crash that occurred Friday in Overton County. 

According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP), the incident took place on Friday, June 28 at mile marker 18.5 on Highway 111. 

Officials said a 2006 Chevrolet Express 2500 was traveling north on Highway 111 when it crossed the center line into the southbound lane.

THP reported a 1994 Ford Ranger, which was traveling southbound, swerved to avoid collision, but was struck by the Chevrolet on the shoulder of the road. 

After hitting the Ford, the Chevrolet reportedly continued traveling southbound and struck a tree. The driver – identified as 43-year-old Joshua Bertram of Kentucky– died as a result of the crash, officials said. Meanwhile, his passenger, also from Kentucky, sustained injuries.  

A crash report states the passenger was wearing a seatbelt when the crash occurred. However, Bertram was not. There is no word on the passenger’s condition at this time.

Officials said the Ford also continued off the roadway and struck a tree after the collision. According to THP, the driver – identified as 73-year-old Jessie Robbins – died in the crash, even though he was wearing a seatbelt. 

No additional details were immediately released about this deadly incident.
