Why is some stranger from German second tier beating Lamine Yamal in Golden Boy vote?

tribuna.com 2024/10/5

German talent Max Finkgrafe is currently winning the Golden Boy public vote by almost 11 per cent, with Lamine Yamal in second place.

Apparently, Koln fans have voted for their player in really huge numbers (some suggested their 'ultras' even hired bots!) which led to the surprise result.

However, fans are not the only ones to decide the outcome – the list will further cut to much fewer names before the journalist panel will vote for the best young players in their opinion.

Lamine Yamal remains the best-positioned player to win the Golden Boy prize this year. Pau Cubarsi is also likely to finish quite high on the final list.

The winner is going to be announced at the end of the year. The latest players to have won the accolade are Jude Bellingham, Gavi, Pedri, Erling Haaland and Joao Felix.
