The star-studded cast for the second season of The Sandman has been revealed, giving Game of Thrones fans a reason to celebrate.

The popular Netflix series, which has received high praise, stars Tom Sturridge as the god of dreams, a character taken from Neil Gaiman's bestselling graphic novels.

Fans are eagerly awaiting more thrilling adventures with Dream and his divine friends and enemies.

While the release date for the second season of The Sandman has not yet been announced, viewers have finally been given an exciting update about the upcoming instalment.

Netflix has confirmed that British comedian Steve Coogan, Douglas Booth from The Riot Club, and Game of Thrones actors Jack Gleeson and Clive Russell will join the next season.

Freddie Fox, who is currently playing Gwayne Hightower in the second season of the Game of Thrones spin-off House of the Dragon, will also be joining the cast.

In addition, Ruairi O'Connor will play Orpheus, Dream's son, Laurence O'Fuarain will play Thor, and Ann Skelly will take on the role of the Faerie Nula (alongside Booth's Cluracan, another Faerie).

Finally, Indya Moore will portray a driver named Wanda, while the recurring cast includes Sturridge, Mason Alexander Park, Patton Oswalt, Gwendoline Christie, Stephen Fry and Jenna Coleman.

Sadly, British comedy legend Coogan won't be appearing in person as he's set to voice a dog named Barnabus, described as "the canine companion of the Endless's prodigal brother."

Jack Gleeson as Joffrey Baratheon

Russell, familiar to Game of Thrones fans as Brynden Tully, will bring his extensive fantasy experience to The Sandman, playing Odin, the Norse god and father to O'Fuarain's Thor.

Gleeson, notorious for his role as the much-hated character Joffrey Baratheon in the HBO fantasy series, will take on the role of the malevolent hobgoblin known as Puck.

Fans of Gaiman's original comics will recognise these characters from The Sandman's Season of Mists and Brief Lives story arcs, which are due to be adapted in the second season.

The plot for the first episode reads: "When the Sandman, aka Dream (Tom Sturridge) - the powerful cosmic being who controls all our dreams - is unexpectedly captured and held prisoner for over a century, he must journey across different worlds and timelines to fix the chaos his absence has caused."

The Sandman is available to stream on Netflix.
