Hain Celestial Revolutionizes Energy Generation: Turning Fruit Waste into Electricity

apexlifehub.com 2 days ago

The Hain Celestial Group (NASDAQ:HAIN) has announced a groundbreaking project that will revolutionize energy generation at its main UK manufacturing facility in Histon, Cambridgeshire. Investing in Sustainability
In a bold move towards sustainability, Hain Celestial is upgrading its anaerobic digestion plant at the Histon site to process fruit waste and create biogas. This biogas will then be used to generate electricity through a state-of-the-art combined heat and power unit. The heat produced will also be utilized to generate hot water, creating a closed-loop energy system with fruit waste at its core.
Doubling Energy Production
This new anaerobic digestion plant is expected to more than double the energy generated from waste fruit, increasing the total green energy produced onsite to meet 25% of the facility's electricity needs. Sustainability lead Benjamin Jeffery expressed excitement about the positive results of the project, leading to plans for a second combined heat and power system to further enhance sustainable electricity production.
Environmental Commitment
The initiative aligns with Hain Celestial's goal to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 42% across its global facilities by 2030. The Histon facility signifies a major step forward in Hain's commitment to minimizing environmental impact and promoting sustainability throughout its operations worldwide. With fruit waste powering electricity generation, Hain Celestial is setting a new standard for environmentally conscious manufacturing practices.
