President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Ibrahim Gusau, has debunked reports linking French coach Herve Renard to the Super Eagles job.

Renard, currently the coach of the French women's football team, had been widely linked to the vacant role at the NFF following Finidi George's resignation.

Finidi, 53, stepped down after just two matches in charge of the Super Eagles, a move prompted by the NFF's decision to hire a technical adviser for the team following Nigeria's disappointing results in the World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Benin Republic.

Herve Renard's recent announcement to leave his role with the France women's team after the Paris Olympics sparked rumors linking him to the three-time African champions.

Addressing the speculations surrounding the next head coach of the Super Eagles, NFF chief Gusau dismissed reports that the federation is considering the French man.

"I am not aware of that for now," the NFF chief said, as quoted by PUNCH

"Did you see it from any NFF communication channel? It is from some of those that are always trying to create confusion."

The 55-year-old French coach has a wealth of experience coaching in Africa, having coached African teams like Angola, Ivory Coast, Zambia, and Morocco.

He is a two-time AFCON winner, having clinched the title with Zambia in 2012 and Ivory Coast in 2015.
