Manchester City are increasingly concerned they will lose Ederson to the loaded Saudi Pro League this summer.

Al Nassr, who already have Cristiano Ronaldo and Aymeric Laporte on their books, are offering the Brazilian keeper a bank-bulging £900,000-a-week to join them. That is more than four times the amount he pockets at the Etihad.

City want to keep Ederson, 30, and are prepared to give him an improved contract extension to get him to stay. However, a decent pay rise from the Premier League champions will not come close to matching the money on the table in Saudi Arabia.

With two years still left on Ederson’s existing deal, City will demand £50million to sell the former-Benfica man, who cost £30m in July 2017. If the transfer does happen it will represent another major coup for the richest league in world football - and a significant setback for Pep Guardiola’s men.

Superb shot-stopper Ederson, capped 25 times by Brazil, has enjoyed relentless success since coming to England. He has lifted six Premier League titles and was a crucial part of City’s all-conquering Treble-Winners campaign of 2022-23.

Guardiola will look to bring in a replacement for Ederson but at least has German Stefan Ortega to step up as his number one. Ortega starred in the final two games of City’s title run-in after Ederson suffered a head injury during a vital away victory at Tottenham.

It is understood City, meanwhile, would be willing to allow midfield outcast Kalvin Phillips to join another club on a season-long loan. Phillips spent the second half of last season on loan at West Ham, but the move turned into a disaster.

The England international is a target of a host of clubs, including Everton, Newcastle and Aston Villa. He is in no rush to make a decision on his next move, but City bosses have told him they would sanction another loan deal if necessary.
