A Benue Socio-cultaural group, the Kwande United People’s Organisation (KWUPO), Wednesday said 6,000 persons have been killed following attacks on their communities by herdsmen from 2013 till date.

The group also said within the period, more than 100,000 persons have been displaced and properties worth N4 billion destroyed by the rampaging herdsmen.

Addressing a press conference at Empire Suite, Makurdi, KWUPO led by the President General, Mr Levi Ikum, in a press conference text read by the publicity secretary, Kator Atsaga, noted that it has become necessary for the people of Kwande Intermediate Area, which comprises of Kwande and Ushongo local government areas to cry out to the state government, the Federal Government of Nigeria and indeed the global community to come to the rescue of the people of the area who are being killed daily in their homes and on their farms and their ancestral lands taken over by heavily armed Fulani herdsmen.

The group said from every indication, the intention of the invading herdsmen was a genocide determined and relentlessly targeted at the total physical elimination of Kwande people by force by armed herdsmen and occupy their lands.

The group also noted that the history of Fulani herdsmen atrocities against Kwande people dated back close to two decades with substantial losses suffered by the peace loving and law abiding people during the past period, including the near total occupation of Moon District by the herdsmen.
