MARION, Iowa (KWWL) -- Duval Walker Jr., the man convicted of killing Cameron Barnes in a shooting at a Marion bar in March of 2023, has been sentenced to life in prison. He is also ordered to pay restitution to Barnes' family.

Walker was originally set to be sentenced in April, but a judge delayed the sentencing as Walker's attorneys pushed for a new trial, citing a new police report with a witness to the shooting. However, the new trial was denied by the judge on Friday.

Walker was accused of fatally shooting Barnes following a confrontation at Cocktails and Company on March 17, 2023. He was found guilty of first-degree murder and being a felon in possession of a firearm in April of this year.

Security footage shown during Walker's trial showed a gun fall on the ground near Walker before he picked it up and fired at Barnes.

The defense argued that the prosecution failed to prove that Walker brought the gun to the bar. The prosecution asserted that it didn't matter who brought the gun, but who ended up using it.
