Netflix's Wednesday makes two major shake-ups ahead of season 2

Netflix's hugely popular show Wednesday, which is a coming-of-age take on the beloved Addams Family character, is currently filming its second season.

Netflix's hit series Wednesday will hopefully be back on our screens later this year, with production for season 2 kicking off and fans eagerly anticipating the return of their favourite characters.

Jenna Ortega is set to reprise her role as the iconic Wednesday Addams from the beloved Addams Family. The happy news follows the star's unexpected exit from another Netflix venture, Jurassic World: Chaos Theory.

While most of the original Wednesday cast are coming back, one major character will be noticeably absent. Percy Hynes White, who portrayed Xavier Thorpe, won't be returning after being cut from the series despite what appears to be unfinished business.

This development comes in the wake of allegations of misconduct against the actor, which he has strongly denied.

Season 2 isn't just seeing a cast shakeup; there's also been a significant change of scenery. The first season was largely shot in Romania, but now the production has moved to County Wicklow in Ireland due to logistical reasons.

This move has been officially confirmed, with Screen Ireland announcing that Wednesday's production will be the "largest production to ever film in Ireland".

In a nod to this cinematic milestone, Taoiseach Simon Harris celebrated by visiting the set. There, he had a meeting with the show's creators, Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, as well as series director Tim Burton.

The politician expressed: "I'm delighted to see Ireland continues to be chosen as a location to film series and movies which supports our economy, creates jobs, showcases our creative talents and promotes our country on a global stage."

"Ireland has long been a home for MGM Television productions from the original Vikings in 2012, to Vikings: Valhalla, and now Wednesday," added Lindsay Sloane, Head of MGM Television.

"We have found resources in Ireland to be top notch and an incredibly skilled group of professionals and apprentices that help bring our productions to life."

Fans can also anticipate some exciting new additions to the show's cast list. New cast members include Fargo's Steve Buscemi, Doctor Who's Billie Piper, Absolutely Fabulous actress Joanna Lumley and Westworld's Thandie Newton.

Wednesday season two is expected to hit Netflix in late 2024 or early 2025.
