There were Manchester City players on both the England and Switzerland sides at the European Championship and that wasn't forgotten after their game

Kyle Walker took time out of England celebrations

Phil Foden, Kyle Walker, and John Stones took time out of England's celebrations after beating Switzerland at the European Championship to console a Manchester City teammate.

Manu Akanji had impressed again for Switzerland as they took the game to Gareth Southgate's side in the quarter-final on Saturday, but the centre-back missed their first penalty of the shootout and then had to watch as England scored all five of theirs. Trent Alexander-Arnold smashed in the decisive spotkick to break Swiss hearts.

As euphoric as England were at the victory that has booked them a semi-final against the Netherlands in midweek, Foden, Stones and former City youngster Cole Palmer - who had scored the first penalty of the shootout - were seen commiserating with Akanji moments after Walker had done the same.

The gracious behaviour in victory reflected well on the England stars, and also spoke to the strong bonds that have been formed in the City dressing room that have led them to so much success. Walker succeeded Ilkay Gundogan as City captain and spoke towards the end of the season about how everybody had the same mindset and work ethic.

"All I want is the best for the club and all I want is the best for the bunch of lads in there," he said. "A lot of the time we get the result we want and they work their socks off.

"People see the Instagram and whatever but nobody sees the hard graft that these lads dedicate themselves to live every day when we're competing in all the competitions, travelling here, there and everywhere to play in the competitions that we've been fortunate to win."

City's England stars will come up against another of their teammates in midweek, with Nathan Ake part of the Netherlands side that beat Turkey on Saturday evening to secure their semi-final spot. Rodri is the heartbeat of the Spain team that face France in the other semi-final.
