Arsenal may be left no choice to fork out hundreds of millions in the summer transfer window to build Mikel Arteta the perfect squad

Mikel Arteta is just a couple of signings away from building the perfect Arsenal starting lineup. The Gunners have been heavily linked with numerous big names recently, such as Ivan Toney and Alexander Isak, as Edu prepares to further bolster the squad in the summer transfer window.

Two positions that Arsenal could target are midfield and attack. With Jorginho and Mohamed Elneny both set to leave the Emirates Stadium following the expiration of their contracts at the end of the season, Arteta could find himself short on options in the middle of the park.

But that's not the only fire Edu has to put out. Following the north Londoners' defeat to Bayern Munich in the Champions League quarterfinal second leg, the Arsenal boss conceded that he doesn't have a talisman who can score '35 to 40 goals a season'.

Unlike Manchester City, who have Erling Haaland, and Liverpool, who often lean on Mohamed Salah. Speaking to CBS Sports, Arteta said: "We have been the team that has scored more goals in the Premier League.

"From everywhere, because of the reality is we don't have a striker that is going to score 35 or 40 goals. So we have to live with that, we have many other qualities. Today is a day to stick behind the players, because they have given us so much and have taken us on this journey."

So, with that being said, football.london has taken a look at two players Arsenal should definitely sign this summer to complete Arteta's starting lineup.

Bruno Guimaraes

Guimaraes, who signed a five-year deal at Newcastle United earlier in the season, has been linked with a move to Arsenal for a while now. football.london understands the Gunners are long admirers of the 26-year-old midfielder, who was heavily scouted and appreciated during his time at Club Athletico Paranaense.

It's believed that Arsenal remain keen on Guimaraes despite opting against signing him in 2020, when he joined Olympique Lyonnais, and in 2022, when he signed for the Magpies. football.london also understands the Brazil international is currently on a list of players that the club are considering ahead of the summer.

Guimaraes has featured 31 times for Eddie Howe's side in the Premier League this term, scoring four goals and providing three assists from holding midfield. If he were to join Arsenal, he'd offer great balance while sitting between Martin Odegaard and Declan Rice.

Alternatively, England international Rice could play the number six role while the £73.2million-rated Newcastle ace roams forward.

Viktor Gyokeres

Gyokeres has recently become one of the most coveted strikers in Europe as he continues to impress for Sporting CP in the Portuguese top flight. The 25-year-old, who sees his contract at Sporting expire in 2028, has featured 29 times in the Primeira Liga this season, scoring 24 goals and providing 10 assists.

Not only has the £47.4million-rated Swede fired Ruben Amorim's side to the top of the table, he also led Sporting to the Europa League knockout stages. While football.london understands that Arsenal are in the market for a new centre-forward this summer, it's believed that Arteta wants somebody who offers great versatility to his frontline.

Gyokeres would be reduced to a conventional number nine role in north London – unlike Isak who can operate anywhere across the front-three – but he'd provide the side with a string focal point. Kai Havertz has often spearheaded the Gunners frontline this term and he's still jet to justify his eye-watering £65million price tag...
