Residents of no fewer than 13 communities in the Elebu area of Ido local government area have been forced to abandon the area due to the deplorable condition of the road.

The affected communities include; Idi-Ahun, Asaka, Araromi, Abobo, Abese, Aba-Ido, Buola, Agbada, Mekun, Aba-Ayo, Bola, Olorun, Temidire and African Jerusalem.

The road which is said to have been abandoned by the successful administration in the state has become a death trap.

The economic and other related activities in the area have suffered a setback as residents have been forced to relocate to nearby communities.

Most of the schools in the area including public and private ones are recording low attendance of pupils while the commercial and business outlets are strictly under lock and key.

Speaking with newsmen, one of the residents, who is also the Spiritual Father of African Jerusalem Christian Ministry, Dr Gideon Owoseni said the roads have been affecting the livelihood of residents in the area, calling on the government to intervene.

He lamented that the bad roads have also led to increased transportation costs, adding that residents are worried about the safety implications of the bad roads.

He said despite promises by government officials, the roads remain in disrepair, noting that residents are tired of excuses but want action.

“The road has been abandoned and neglected for a long period of time, the road is very rocky and sandy during rainy seasons, and there are potholes on the road which are dangerous for passage of vehicles.

“This road serves a large number of houses and government schools in the area, the whole community and all nearby elementary schools in the area will benefit if the road is fixed.”

He, however, appealed to the government to take responsibility and fix the roads which according to him have become a source of embarrassment for the residents.

Meanwhile, a letter titled “Request for Support on Road Construction” addressed to the Commissioner for Public Works in the state by the landlords/landladies in the area reads, “On behalf of the above-named community, I write to bring to your attention the poor condition of the road in our area.
