Newcastle United have signed three players this week, and are confident that a fourth could soon follow.

While Yankuba Minteh and Elliot Anderson were sold to solve Newcastle United’s PSR crisis, there have also been arrivals at St James’ Park.

To the surprise of no one, the club announced that Lewis Hall’s loan move from Chelsea had become a permanent deal, while the Magpies also completed deals for two goalkeepers.

Anderson’s transfer to Nottingham Forest coincided with Odysseas Vlachodimos moving to Tyneside, and the belief is that he will challenge Nick Pope for the number one jersey at St James’ Park.

On top of that, Newcastle also announced the arrival of John Ruddy. The 37-year-old was a free agent, but has joined the Magpies to boost Eddie Howe’s goalkeeping ranks.

It has been a really few busy days in the transfer market for Newcastle, and that is expected to continue as Toon officials eye an addition at youth level.

Newcastle now hoping to close in on Rory Finneran deal

As well as first-team signings for the 2024/25 season, Newcastle are also looking to snap up youngsters for the future.

Rory Finneran falls into that category, as the Magpies aim to sign a player who made his senior debut for Blackburn Rovers at the age of just 15-years-old.

According to the Northern Echo, Newcastle United are now confident that they are going to sign Rory Finneran from Blackburn in the coming weeks.

They report that Toon officials have been pushing hard to get the 16-year-old to sign for Newcastle, and are now hopeful that their efforts are going to pay off.

The Northern Echo add that Blackburn were hoping to include Finneran in their first-team next season, but it now looks like he will be joining the youth setup at Newcastle instead.

‘Talented boy’ could have a very bright future at Newcastle United

It will be a major coup if Newcastle get this deal over the line, as the Magpies aim to bring in a player who may still not have hit his peak in 10 years.

Finneran is a midfielder, and someone who received a lot of praise from former Newcastle attacker Jon Dahl Tomasson earlier this year. He was the man who gave Finneran his Blackburn debut at the age of 15, bringing him on as a substitute in an FA Cup win over Cambridge United. Incredibly, the teenager had to wear a shirt without a sponsor as he was too young to advertise the vaping company ‘Totally Wicked’.

On Finneran, Tomasson told the Lancashire Telegraph: “Rory is a talented boy, he can play with his left or right feet and has great vision. We shouldn’t forget he is still very young for this level but I thought it was a good opportunity to give him that experience.”

The fact that Finneran got a chance to play senior football at such a young age is a testament to his ability and maturity, and it hints to a very bright future – and a future that could be spent in the black and white of Newcastle.

If he does arrive on Tyneside, there will likely be a clear route for him to become a first-team player on Tyneside, as Newcastle aim to get more players rising through the ranks and becoming senior stars.
