Dr. Palgrave Boakye Danquah, the spokesperson on Governance and Security, has praised President Nana Akufo-Addo for introducing the flagship Free Senior High School (Free SHS) programme.

 According to Dr. Boakye Danquah, this initiative has significantly increased access to secondary education in the country.

He noted that from 1957 to 2017, only about 800,000 people had access to secondary education in Ghana.

The introduction of the Free SHS policy has shot up the numbers and numbers continue to shoot up every academic year.

 However, with the introduction of the Free SHS programme, approximately one million young people now have access to secondary education.

Dr. Boakye Danquah explained that the Free SHS programme has evolved from being a policy of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to a civic responsibility policy, highlighting the need for legal backing to ensure its continuity.

 He stressed the importance of enacting a law to protect the policy from being discontinued by any future group in the name of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

"This is a policy for all Ghanaians, so we need the law to back it," he argued, advocating for the promulgation of the Free SHS bill.

Dr. Boakye Danquah emphasized that the Free SHS programme has provided hope to the less privileged in society, enabling them to attend the same grade A schools as the more privileged.

He also mentioned that it is noteworthy that the party’s running mate, Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh, was the first Minister to implement the policy.
