An exciting 10-round super middleweight bout is set to feature in the   main event happening at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California on July 6. An experienced fighter, will set foot in the squared circle against , son of Hall of Fame boxer and former world champion “Sugar” Shane Mosley. The fight between Jacobs and Shane Mosley Jr. will be a PPV co-main event to the grudge match between the UFC veterans, Masvidal and Diaz. The event will be televised globally on Fanmio.

Speaking to the reporters about his son’s upcoming matchup, Hall of Famer Shane Mosley said, “I think this is the biggest fight. I think him getting a win over somebody like Dan Jacobs solidifies him…..take him seriously as being a world champion. This fight right here beating Daniel Jacobs, will definitely put him in the running like, okay, Shane Jr has arrived.” Mosley believes that his son’s “speed” and his “youth” will give him an advantage over the “older” Jacobs. On the other hand, the 37-year-old Jacobs is a former middleweight champion who boasts an impressive boxing resume, having fought the who’s who of boxing greats. Thus, beating Jacobs might not be an easy feat for Shane Jr as he hasn’t faced an elite name in the professional boxing circuit. That being said, let’s take a look at their boxing records and the physical attributes of both fighters to see who would have an advantage over the other.

Who’s good on paper?

Daniel Jacobs has been in the fight business for a long time. With a boxing record of 37-4, he has faced the likes of elite fighters like Gennadiy Golovkin, Canelo Alvarez, and John Ryder. However, all of his fights with the boxing superstars ended in defeat. He faced a decision loss against Golovkin in 2017, followed by another loss on points to Canelo Alvarez in 2019. Meanwhile, his last defeat came against John Ryder in 2022. Jacobs suffered from a rare form of life-threatening bone cancer called osteosarcoma during his boxing career. He went on to make a full recovery but is still reeling from the effects of operation-induced complications. That might be one of the reasons why he had stayed out of the ring for a long time since his last fight.

On the other hand, Shane Mosley Jr at 33 years old has a record of 21-4. Compared to Jacobs’ resume, he has no high-profile names in his win column and has picked up the same number of losses in his career as his opponent. He also has a lesser number of professional fights than Jacobs. However, Mosley is on a hot streak, having scored four consecutive wins in his previous fights. His last loss was in 2021 against Jason Quigley.

Daniel Jacobs vs. Shane Mosley Jr.: Age, height, reach, weight

Mosley is the younger fighter who has still got a few years ahead of him. Meanwhile, at 37, Daniel Jacobs will be looking to wind down his boxing career shortly. Looking on the brighter side, his experience against elite boxers will come in handy against the relatively younger Mosley. Shane Jr. does have a height and reach advantage over Jacobs. He is 6′ 1″, with a 77-inch reach, beating Jacobs, who is 5′11″ with a 73-inch reach. Shane Jr. could use this to his advantage, and keep Jacobs at range while fighting on the outside.

The ‘Miracle Man’ missed weight for the fight, coming in at 169.2lbs. Meanwhile, Mosley Jr weighed in at 167.6 lbs. The super middleweight limit is 168 pounds. Nonetheless, Mosley Jr has agreed to go on with the fight, therefore, ‘Miracle Man’ can use the extra weight to his advantage and deliver stronger punches. A glance at the boxing records would tell you that with a KO ratio of 81.08%, eclipsing Mosley’s measly 57.14% Jacobs has a clear power advantage.

On paper, the younger fighter, Shane Jr should be beating the older Jacobs. Quicker reflexes, accompanied by the height and reach advantage, should play in Mosley’s favor. But the 37-year-old pugilist’s boxing experience and knockout power cannot be ignored. Shane Mosley Jr. can get the job done, but it definitely won’t be a cakewalk and Jacobs definitely won’t make it easy for his younger opponent.
