The Joselu equaliser against Bayern in the 88th minute was a curious one. Manuel Neuer failed to keep the ball in his hands after a Vinicius effort and Joselu pounced, giving hope to Real Madrid.

There's more to it, though. Ferland Mendy didn't make a single touch in the attack which led to the goal but we believe he should get a lot of credit for what happened.

The full-back ran at full speed, overlapping Vinicius on the left-hand side. This run distracted Kimmich, who found himself in a weird position: he was unsure whether he should commit to Vinicius or track Mendy's run.

This moment of indecisiveness gave the Brazilian an extra second to cut inside into the space between Kimmich and Mazraoui. And it's everything Vini Jr. needed as he unleashed an effort from outside the box.

Distracted by Mendy, Kimmich stayed in his position. Had he made a few steps towards Vinicius earlier, the forward would have been unable to take a shot and would have had to dribble past the Bayern man.

The funny part here is that Mendy threw a tantrum at Vinicius for not feeding him with a pass through the left. The Frenchman was frustrated — but then he saw Joselu putting the ball into the net and was the first to hug Joselu as the Whites celebrated the leveller.
