Terrorists have reportedly abducted the village head of Tunburku, Mallam Ashiru Sherehu, in the Giwa Local Government area of Kaduna.

Sherehu was kidnapped on returning from his farm on Saturday.

Meanwhile, bandits have been terrorising the town, with a part of the Fatika district in recent times.

According to Mallam Ahmadu, a resident of the area, farmers are unable to access their farms situated a few kilometers from the town due to fear of being killed or abducted.

Also, Hussaini Umar, a traditional leader in the community, and Sarkin Fadan Galadimawa, confirmed the incident, saying that the village head was abducted around 5:00 pm on Saturday.

Umar said: “He was returning from his farm around Tunburku area when he was stopped by the bandits and they took him away. We are yet to hear from his abductors; they have not contacted us.”

According to him, two other farmers were abducted in Sabon Layi under Kidandan Ward while working on their farms on Sunday afternoon.

He explained that villagers who witnessed the incident were unable to intervene as the bandits were armed.

Umar lamented over the sorry situation, pointing out that farmers were being hunted by bandits.

He commended efforts of the soldiers deployed to the area but appealed to the government to send more security personnel as the insecurity situation is worsening.

The Kaduna State Police Command has not reacted to the incident. Phone calls made to the Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Mansir Hassan, were not answered.
