Revealed: Why Chelsea May Start Next Season With Blank Shirts Again

theeagle.com.ng 2024/5/18

Chelsea may have to start the following season with blank shirts as they are having trouble finding a primary sponsor for the 2024–25 campaign.

With fresh problems plaguing owner Todd Boehly, the Blues could find themselves in a situation where they have to play without a front-of-shirt sponsor, as they were in the first two months of this season. Following only a brief agreement with Infinite Athlete in September 2023, Chelsea has not yet secured a sponsor for the upcoming campaign.

The Times claims that the London team had missed the deadline set by Nike, the manufacturer of their uniforms, to add a new brand on their new jerseys. This could imply that Chelsea would embark on their 2024–25 journey without a sponsor, continuing their shenanigans from the previous year. Boehly was not impressed with the Premier League’s decision to evaluate the possibility of a cooperation with Infinite Athlete, and by the end of the summer, he might find himself in a similar circumstance.

Chelsea’s previous deal with phone company Three was worth £40 million ($50m) a season between 2020 and 2023. It was a big stream of income for the Blues who have splashed out majorly since Boehly arrived to replace Roman Abramovich in 2022.

In order to strengthen Chelsea’s squad, head coach Mauricio Pochettino will need to make some difficult decisions over the summer. The former Tottenham manager would probably need to fire a few of the well-known players at Stamford Bridge, particularly if he wishes to add some fresh talent.
