Ekiti State Government has called for an immediate suspension of power outages by the Benin Electricity Distribution Company, BEDC, which are scheduled to last nine hours daily from today to 31st of next month.

Commissioner for Infrastructure and Public Utilities in the state, Professor Mobolaji Aluko made the call in a letter addressed to the managing directors of Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN, and BEDC, as well as, to the chairman of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, NERC.

Professor Aluko, who criticized the lack of direct communication with the ministry and the Ekiti State Electricity Regulatory Bureau, emphasized that the proposed 558 hours of outages would impose an unacceptable economic, financial, and social burden on the residents in the Ekiti State.

He, however, called for an urgent meeting for tomorrow to explore less disruptive alternatives for the necessary maintenance work on the 132kv Akure-Osogbo transmission line.
