Sources speaking to The Times have called the Ambanis ‘India’s most powerful family’, describing the ways in which ‘they flex huge social and financial influence… no one would turn down an invitation. They’re a marker of the social pecking order.’ Anant, the youngest of three siblings, graduated from Brown University, before joining his brother and sister, Akash and Isha, at Reliance Industries, the family firm, where he is a non-executive director, responsible for the expansion of the energy sector.

Since 2020, Ambani managed Reliance’s energy business, spearheading its green energy operations with an aim to become a Net Carbon Zero company by 2035. He also sits on the board of the conglomerate’s non-profit, the Reliance Foundation, as well as the board of Reliance Industries itself, and he is one of the directors of tech company, Jio Platforms Limited. All this has earned him an estimate net worth (so far) of around $40 billion.

Ambani has passions which lie outside of work too: concerned about animal welfare since childhood, he recently launched Vantara, a 3,000-acre animal shelter, which was toured by VIP guests during the couple's pre-wedding party in Jamnagar. Merchant has said that she hopes the wedding will bring ‘global attention to Vantara’, calling it ‘a project that my husband and I hold very close in our hearts’. The pair's shared commitments are clearly a bond for them, and Ambani has previously expressed his adoration his wife-to-be. Speaking at their pre-wedding festivities, he said: ‘I am 100% the lucky one. It feels like I met Radhika yesterday, but every day, I fall more and more in love.’
