A 22-year-old Damilola Olatunji, has been arrested by operatives of the Osun State Police Command for alleged conspiracy, murder, membership in an unlawful society, and unlawful possession of prohibited firearms.

Olatunji was arrested after a deadly clash between rival cult groups, Aiye and Eiye confraternities, at the Oja-Oba area of Osogbo.

This announcement was made by the Police Command through the spokesperson, Yemisi Opalola, on Friday in Osogbo.

DAILY POST gathered that in May, there was a reported clash between the Aiye confraternity led by Olalekan, Eiye cultists led by Yinka, popularly known as YK, and Egbatedo Boys, which led to the death of one individual in a crossfire.

According to Opalola, “On 12th May 2024, there was a rivalry clash between Aiye confraternity headed by Oyeyemi Olalekan ‘m’ a.k.a. ‘Emir’ and Egbatedo boys led by Yinka, popularly called Y.K, and Eiye cultists at Oja-Oba area in Osogbo, which resulted in cross-firings before the police intervention.

“It was later gathered that the two groups were reinforcing their members to cause further commotion in the town, which prompted the Commissioner of Police to detail all the police tactical teams to embark on raiding the criminal hideouts and consequently arrested one Damilola Olatunji.

“During the interrogation, the suspect confessed to being a member of Aiye Confraternity led by Oyeyemi Olalekan a.k.a. ‘Emir.’

“He further revealed to be the cult group’s armourer and took the investigation team inside an uncompleted building at Agoro Area, Osogbo, where the above-mentioned exhibits were hidden.”

Opalola also said the suspect mentioned the names of other members of the unlawful society, including Adigun, who is the second-in-command to Emir, Ashipa, Saheed, Baloo, Ajebo, Yinka, Muideen, Gbomolade, Jide, Emmanuel, Tunde, Ayo, Fele and others now at large.

Revealing that efforts are in top gear to apprehend them, the police spokesperson said that the suspect would be charged to court upon the completion of the investigation.

Exhibits recovered during the arrest include four pump action guns, three cut-to-size Beretta guns, one locally made pistol, one jackknife, ten cutlasses, and thirty-three rounds of live cartridges.

Other suspects arrested were Adegboye Opeyemi, 37, who was arrested for being in possession of a human skull, and Aderibigbe Opeyemi, 24, arrested for armed robbery and attempted murder.
