On Thursday, June 27, the Imo state government refuted the claims that the state is overwhelmed by insecurity, calling the narrative untrue and misleading.

According to Onwuasoanya Jones, the special adviser to Governor Hope Uzodimma on public communication, the state remains safe and secure for events, including the recent cultural marriage ceremony of Davido and Chioma.

The statement read: “The narrative that the cultural marriage ceremony was held in Lagos because of insecurity in Imo State or the Southeast is not correct.

“Imo State, especially the axis where this marriage ceremony could have been held, if Davido chose to hold the ceremony in Nkwere or Owerri, are among the safest places in the Southeast.”

Jones emphasised that the state government has made significant strides in collaboration with security agencies to rid the state of criminal and terrorist elements, resulting in a drastic drop in crime and violent disturbances.

He also noted that Imo State has hosted several high-profile events without any security breaches.

Jones said: “Davido’s decision to hold his marriage ceremony outside Imo State must not be politicized or misrepresented.

“The idea of holding cultural marriage ceremonies at cities other than the homestead of the bride is a cultural trend that has been evolving for over one decade now.”

The government assured that Imo State is safe and secure for all and that Governor Hope Uzodimma remains committed to building a safe and secure state for all.
