Saipan International School proudly celebrates the continued success of its Class of 2020 valedictorians, Anika Snyder and Malika Miyawaki. These remarkable alumnae have achieved significant academic and professional milestones, underscoring the exceptional education and foundation provided by SIS.

Anika Snyder graduated with a First Class BSc (honours) in Ecology and Conservation from the prestigious University of St. Andrews. Located in Scotland, the University of St. Andrews is renowned for its rigorous academic programs and rich history, being the third oldest university in the English-speaking world. Snyder’s outstanding academic performance earned her a place on the dean’s list. Her dissertation, titled “Analysis of Life History Trade-Offs Reveals Potential Benefits in Body Condition and Immune Response Associated with the Curly-Wing Morph in Pacific Field Crickets,” reflects her deep commitment to ecological research and conservation.

This fall, Snyder will embark on a PhD program in Wildlife Biology in the Whitely Lab at the University of Montana. The Whitely Lab is recognized for its cutting-edge research in conservation genomics and its commitment to understanding and preserving biodiversity. Snyder’s dedication to advancing scientific understanding in this field has also been recognized through the NextGen scholarship, administered by Northern Marianas College.

Malika Miyawaki has graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from Emory University. Emory, located in Atlanta, Georgia, is a leading institution known for its strong emphasis on research and healthcare education. Miyawaki is set to begin her career at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, the largest pediatric hospital in Georgia. During her academic journey, Miyawaki completed a highly competitive summer internship in the brain and spinal cord trauma rehabilitation unit, which resulted in a full-time offer starting in August.

At Emory University, Miyawaki distinguished herself as one of the 100 Senior Honorary students. The Emory 100 Senior Honorary is a prestigious recognition awarded by Emory University to 100 seniors who have made significant contributions to the university community. Being named to the Emory 100 Senior Honorary is a high honor that celebrates the diverse talents and impactful efforts of graduating seniors who have exemplified excellence and dedication throughout their time at Emory. She was a scholar in the Emory In Motion program, which provides mobile health services to underserved communities. Her leadership and dedication were evident through her executive roles in organizations such as the Global Medical Missions Alliance, Remote Area Medical, and the Asian Student Organization.

Both Snyder and Miyawaki exemplify the values and educational excellence of Saipan International School. Their achievements are a testament to their hard work, dedication, and the supportive community that has nurtured their talents.

“We are continually impressed with Anika and Malika here at SIS,” said headmaster Dr. Ron Snyder. “Their accomplishments are inspiring and serve as a shining example to our current students. We are confident that they will continue to make significant contributions in their respective fields and beyond.”
