THE world's best waterpark has had plans approved for a second park - and it's going to be built in a popular Spanish holiday destination.

This year's TripAdvisor Traveller's Choice Awards once again revealed Siam Park in Tenerife as the best water attraction on the planet.

It came second overall on the list of best amusement parks and waterparks, finishing above places like Alton Towers and Universal Studios, with only Disneyland Paris beating it to top spot.

The park is considered a must for anyone heading to Tenerife, with some amazing unique rides and features making it a great day out for all the family.

After publishing this year's list, TripAdvisor wrote: "Located in Tenerife in the Canary Islands, Siam Park is Europe’s largest water park.

"The Thai-themed park is home to thrilling rides like Tower of Power—one of the world’s fastest waterslides.

"Check out the lazy rivers, a wave pool with 11-foot-high waves, Volcano (a four-person slide with a laser show), and a terrifying (but fun) shark tunnel."

Now Siam Park is set to get a sister park, elsewhere in the Canary Islands.

Plans have been unanimously approved for a new park to be built in El Veril, Gran Canaria.

The project was put forward more than a year ago and it finally received approval last month.

The San Bartolomé de Tirajana Council gave the green light for the initiation of a new "Modernisation, Improvement, and Competitiveness Plan (PMM)" for El Veril.

These plans include the construction of the new waterpark.

The PMM aims to revitalise the seaside resort, and focuses on improving public spaces, and creating tourist facilities, according to Canarian Weekly.

The brand new Siam Park is the main aspect of the plan to improve tourism offerings in the area.

Some plans for the park emerged last year, which included some pretty exciting-sounding ideas and "unprecedented features" according to Canary News.

Among them are the "Tree of Life," which would consist of a 104ft artificial tree, "adorned with slides and connected by bridges".

The proposals also included entrance corridors flanked by elephants, providing an immersive experience from the moment visitors arrive.

A wider beach area, a lazy river, an Adrenaline Mountain, a Beach Club, and a children's area designed like a Thai village, are all listed as possible features too.

Meanwhile, a map of what the park could look like also includes ride names like the Jungle Snake Pipeline, the Giant Cannonbowl and The Mega Kracken Racer, among others.

However, it's not clear if those are just names, or if concepts for the features have been fully considered.

And it's clearly in the hands of the experts, with Siam Park voted the best waterpark in the world every single year since 2014, apart from in 2021.

It regained its title the year after and has held onto it since, keeping it in this year's Traveller's Choice listings.

Meanwhile, this is what it's like inside the UK's biggest waterparks.

And this UK seaside waterpark has reopened in time for the summer.
