What Chelsea have done this season that Arsenal haven’t managed to do after Champions League exit last night

Both of Chelsea’s Premier League rivals who were left in the Champions League met their demise from the competition last night.

Manchester City will not be able to defend their crown after they were dumped out on penalties by Real Madrid, with former Blues Mateo Kovacic and Antonio Rudiger enjoying very different fortunes at the Etihad.

Arsenal got on no better either, with them being outclassed by Thomas Tuchel at Bayern Munich, with his Champions League performances not surprising any Chelsea fans after their win in 2021.

Arsenal out of the Champions League

The Gunners in particular will likely be gutted with how their season is playing out, with it looking as if they could end the campaign without a major trophy.

This is despite their really promising season as a whole, with Kai Havertz being one of the players who left Chelsea who has actually settled into his new side the best after becoming one of the club’s biggest sales.

However, a quarter-final exit in the Champions League has also gone with early departures from the other cup competitions, something which has not been the case for the Blues this season.

Chelsea in more semi-finals than Arsenal this season

After defeat in the League Cup, they are preparing for a return to Wembley at the weekend when they face City in the FA Cup semi-final.

Their two semi-final appearances this season easily trump the figure of Arsenal’s this season, and victory in the FA Cup would likely see questions be asked over who has actually had the best season if Arsenal end up trophyless.

Chelsea’s hopes of that happening are likely reliant on Cole Palmer, who has taken this season by storm after his transfer from City last summer.

He currently sits as the joint top scorer in the Premier League, and has a real chance at making a statement to those who sold him when they meet at Wembley at the weekend.
