Sudha Murthy’s first speech in the Rajya Sabha was dedicated to boosting domestic tourism. She highlighted 57 domestic tourist sites that should be considered World Heritage Sites, including the Bahubali statue at Shravanabelagola in Karnataka, Lingaraja Temple, Unakoti rock carvings in Tripura, Shivaji forts in Maharashtra, Chausath Yogini Temple in Mitawali, Lothal in Gujarat, and Gol Gumbaz. "In India, we have 42 World Heritage Sites, but 57 are pending ... we should focus on those 57 sites," Murthy said. She praised the marvelous temples in Srirangam and noted that the 2,500-year-old monuments in Sarnath are still not recognized as World Heritage Sites. Murthy also mentioned that the design of the old Parliament Building was inspired by the ancient Chausath Yogini Temple in Mitawali, Madhya Pradesh.
